Initiativkreis Horizontastronomie in the Ruhr area

The Initiativkreis Horizontastronomie im Ruhrgebiet e. V. ( Initia Horae for short = origin of time , lat.) Is an association of astronomers from the Westphalian public observatory in Recklinghausen and the Ruhr University in Bochum as well as private individuals from the region interested in astronomy .

founding

In March 2003 the initiative was constituted as a registered association . The reason was the idea of ​​setting up a modern calendar observatory based on prehistoric models (e.g. Stonehenge or Goseck's solar observatory ) and the subsequent collaboration with the later builder of the horizon observatory , the Ruhr Regional Association (RVR).

Club goal

According to its statutes, the aim of the non-profit association is : "The purpose of the association is to promote the general astronomical education of the population through the establishment of publicly accessible astronomical observation sites in the Ruhr area. In particular, the association is dedicated to the following tasks: Establishing a horizon observatory in an astronomical park on the Halde Hoheward in Herten and Recklinghausen. Promotion of the later public event operations on the Halde Hoheward. activities

The initiative group is primarily responsible for the ideas and design of the astronomical buildings on the Hoheward dump in Herten / Recklinghausen . He is at the side of the executing companies and planners in an advisory capacity. In addition, the association develops information material for visitors to the facilities and regularly conducts information events and, on request, tours of the dump. Furthermore, one works on ideas and concepts for similar or extensions of the existing systems.
