With the Papal Bull Iniunctum nobis of November 13, 1564, Pope Pius IV laid down the Trento Creed in text and form.

Commitment to creed

This creed , enshrined in the bull, should serve to ward off false teachings . So put this bull - on the Council of Trent was developed - found that all priests before their ordination must pass and acquisition of a new office this "Professio Fidei Tridentina". I NN believe and confess with firm conviction everything and everything that is contained in the symbols of faith used by the Holy Roman Church, namely:

I believe in one God, the Almighty Father, Creator of heaven and earth, everything visible and invisible;

and to a Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, born before all time from the Father, God from God, light from light, true God from true God, created, not created, with the Father of a being through whom all was created;

and who, because of us men and because of our salvation, rose from heaven, became flesh through the Holy Spirit from Mary the Virgin and became man;

was crucified for us too, suffered under Pontius Pilate and was buried;

and on the third day he rose again according to the scriptures and ascended into heaven;

sit at the right hand of the Father and come from there with glory to judge the living and the dead, and whose kingdom will have no end.

And to the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life, who goes out from the Father and the Son, who is adored and glorified at the same time with the Father and Son, who spoke through the prophets

and to a holy, universal and apostolic Church.

I confess the one baptism for the remission of sins and await the resurrection of the dead and a future eternal life, amen.

I admit and most firmly embrace the apostolic and ecclesiastical traditions and the other observations and ordinances of the same church.

In the same way I admit the Holy Scriptures according to that sense which the Holy Mother, the Church, to which it belongs, to judge the true meaning and the explanation of the Holy Scriptures. And I never want to accept and explain them other than according to the unanimous agreement of the fathers.

I also confess that there are truly and really seven sacraments of the new covenant, which Jesus Christ our Lord instituted and for the salvation of the human race, although not all of them are individually necessary;

Namely: baptism, confirmation, the sacrament of the altar, penance, the last unction, priestly ordination and marriage, and that they convey a grace and from them baptism, confirmation and ordination cannot be repeated without desecration.

I also increase and allow the accepted and confirmed customs of the Catholic Church in the solemn administration of all of the above sacraments.

I embrace and accept everything and everything that has been determined and explained in the holy council of Trento about original sin and justification.

I confess in the same way that in the Mass God is offered a true, authentic and conciliatory sacrifice for the living and the dead, and that in the most sacred sacrament of the altar truly, really and essentially the body and blood together with the soul and divinity of Our Lord Jesus Christ there be and the whole essence of the bread is transformed into the body and the whole essence of the wine into the blood. What transformation the Catholic Church calls transubstantiation.

I confess that even under one figure Christ will be whole and unharmed and the true sacrament will be received.

I firmly assume that there will be a purgatory and that the souls kept there will be relieved by the help of the believers;

in the same way, also that they may be venerated and invoked at the same time as saints ruling Christ and that their prayers should be offered to God for us and that their relics should also be venerated.

I affirm most firmly that the images of Christ, the constant Virgin Mother of God, like the other saints, should be kept and preserved and that they should be given the honor and veneration they deserve.

I also affirm that the power of indulgences was left by Christ in the Church and that the use of it is most salutary for the Christian people.

I recognize the Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church as the mother and teacher of all churches;

And promise and swear true obedience to the Roman Pope, the successor of the holy Prince Apostle Peter and representative of Jesus Christ. In the same way I accept and I confess without a doubt everything else that has been handed down, determined and explained by the holy canons and ecumenical councils and especially by the most holy council of churches in Trent.

And at the same time I condemn, reject and curse everything opposite and absolutely all heresies condemned, rejected and cursed by the Church.

This true, Catholic faith, except for which no one can be happy and which I currently freely confess and truly keep, I promise, pledge and swear to NN likewise unharmed and unharmed until the last breath of life, with the assistance of God, to steadfastly maintain and confess and to see to it, so much for me, that he is held, taught and preached by my subordinates or those over whom I am responsible in my office: So help me God and this holy gospel of God!

Creed "Professio Fidei" in the current version

The General Assembly of the German Bishops' Conference decided on March 14, 2000 to dispense with a separate translation of Professio fidei and Iusiurandum fidelitatis and to use the texts given by Rome in future in the German dioceses . The German translations printed below can therefore be used in Germany instead of the Latin texts.

Formula to use when making a creed is required by law:

I, NN, firmly believe and confess everything and everything that is contained in the creed:
I believe in the one God, the Almighty Father, who created everything, heaven and earth, the visible and the invisible world.
And to the one Lord Jesus Christ, God's only begotten Son, born of the Father before time:
God from God, light from light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father; through him everything was created.
For us humans and for our salvation he came from heaven, became flesh through the Holy Spirit from the Virgin Mary and became man.
He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, suffered and was buried, rose on the third day according to the scriptures and ascended to heaven.
He sits at the right hand of the Father and will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead; there will be no end to his rule.
I believe in the Holy Spirit who is Lord and gives life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who is adored and glorified with the Father and the Son, who spoke through the prophets, and the one, holy, catholic and apostolic church.
I confess the one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
I await the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
I also firmly believe everything that is contained in the written or traditional Word of God and is presented by the Church as revealed by God to be believed, be it by solemn judgment, be it by the ordinary and general magisterium.
I also acknowledge with firmness and hold fast to everything and everyone that is finally presented by the Church with regard to the doctrine of faith and morals.
I also adhere with religious obedience of will and understanding to the doctrines presented by the Pope or the college of bishops when they exercise their authentic magisterium, even if they do not intend to proclaim it in a definitive act.

Oath of loyalty when assuming a church office

Formula to be used for those believers mentioned in can. 833, nn. 5-8 ( Codex Iuris Canonici ) are:

I, NN, promise when I take over the office of ... that I will always maintain communion with the Catholic Church in my words and in my behavior.
With great care and faithfulness I will fulfill my duties towards the universal Church as well as towards the particular Church in which I am called to perform my service in accordance with the legal regulations.
In the exercise of my office, which has been entrusted to me in the name of the Church, I will preserve the goods of the faith intact and faithfully pass them on and interpret them; therefore I will avoid all doctrines that contradict the good of faith.
I will obey and promote the discipline of the universal Church and obey all ecclesiastical laws, especially those contained in the Code of Canon Law.
In Christian obedience I will obey what the bishops say as authentic proclaimers and teachers of the faith or as leaders of the Church.
I will loyally stand by the diocesan bishops to carry out the apostolic service that is to be exercised in the name and on behalf of the Church in communion with this Church.
So help me God and these holy Gospels that I touch with my hands.

Variants in the 4th and 5th paragraph of the formula of the oath of loyalty for those mentioned in can. 833, No. 8 are mentioned:
