Innocent III. (Antipope)

Lando von Sezze (also Landus Sitinus ) was named Innocent III. from September 29, 1179 to January 1180 antipope to Pope Alexander III. Its Latin name means: the innocent.

Under anti-pope Victor IV. To Cardinal collected was Innocent III. the last of the anti-popes during the pontificate of Alexander III.

Emperor Friedrich Barbarossa , whose conflict with Alexander III. which had nurtured over twenty years of schism , had the legitimacy of the pontificate of Alexander III. already recognized in the peace treaty of Venice in 1177, so that the pontificate of Innocent III. hardly matters. Innocent resided in Palumbara in southern Italy , but was seized as early as 1180 and sent to Alexander III. extradited who sentenced him to life imprisonment in La Cava monastery .

Innocent III. died in custody, the date and circumstances of his death are not recorded.
