The Carl locomotive of Inselbahn Juist was a two-axle diesel locomotive with rod drive from the standard A3M 220 F range from Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz . It was used until the early 1960s and scrapped in 1970.

development

The A3M 220 F series are locomotives with a three-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine. From 1935 to 1941, a total of 143 copies of the narrow-gauge version are said to have been made, which were called Cölln .

The locomotive with the serial number 12611 was delivered to the Inselbahn Juist in May 1935 . It was named after the then director of the shipping company Norden-Frisia , Carl Stegmann. A photo from 1956 shows the machine with side plate buffers, which were only used for a water truck on the island railway. The locomotive was replaced by more powerful machines from the 1960s and sold to a construction company in Norden in 1968. In 1970 it was scrapped.

technology

The front-end locomotive with the driver's cab behind it was equipped with the standing three-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine Deutz A3M 220 F and a mechanical gearbox. The engine was water-cooled and corresponded to type 2, which was used for light railways . The transmission was in front of the driver's cab. There the jackshaft was mounted in the frame, connecting rods drove the front axle, the wheels were connected with coupling rods. Both wheels were braked on one side from the front, they were sanded from the inside. The locomotives only had a central headlight.
