The two-axle diesel locomotive with chain drive was built for the meter-gauge island railway Sylt and was given the designation L20 . It was built by Deutsche Werken (DWK) in Kiel as a one-off. It has been preserved and is used on the Selfkantbahn as V 14 with the nickname List .

development

After the delivery of seven locomotives of the DWK D100 series in standard gauge, the DWK manufactured another locomotive for meter gauge that had been ordered by the Reich Ministry of Aviation in Berlin . This locomotive was the manufacturer's last built narrow-gauge locomotive.

technology

Originally the locomotive had a terminal cab. In 1957 it was fundamentally rebuilt, only the chassis, the gear sets and parts of the transmission remained. When it was rebuilt, it was given a central driver's cab and stems on both sides.

The machine system originally consisted of a six-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine from DWK with an output of 110 hp and a gearbox from the same manufacturer. In 1957 the locomotive received a new 180 hp engine from Büssing , a new five-speed gearbox and a truck-type air brake .

commitment

The locomotive was used by the Reich Aviation Ministry on the northern runway and served the List air force base there . In 1949 it became part of the Sylt Inselbahn and was primarily used in freight train service for almost 30 years. After the end of railway operations on Sylt, the L20 was retained. The locomotive was taken over by the historical rail traffic interest group and used on the Selfkantbahn first with the designation V 10 and later with the designation V 14 . In 1973 it suffered a gearbox damage, went back into operation in 1983 after thorough overhaul and was primarily used in shunting and construction train service. The locomotive bears the name List in memory of its first location . It has been switched off again since 2006.
