Insig

INSIG Sh.a. ( Albanian for Instituti i Sigurimeve Sh.a. , dt. "Institute of Insurance") is an insurance company active in Albania , Kosovo (since 2000) and North Macedonia (since 2004). INSIG was founded on July 31, 1991 by the Albanian Parliament . It was separated from the former Instituti i Arkave të Kursimit dhe Sigurimeve (German: "Institute of Savings Banks and Insurance") and became an independent, but initially state-owned company.

INSIG is the largest insurance company in Albania: around 130,000 people are insured with it. The company has 17 branches in Albania, seven in Kosovo and 14 in North Macedonia.

In 2000, the then Albanian government began to privatize the company. For this it was converted into a stock corporation. In 2008 it was already offered for sale. A year later, a customer got in touch: the American Reserve Life Insurance ( ARLI ) expressed its interest in INSIG, which theoretically went to them for 41 million euros . But the money never flowed into the state coffers, because ARLI got into a severe financial crisis and finally had to call off the sale.

In June 2011 the Albanian government stepped up privatization . No price was set, "everyone" would be fine for the government. Critics believe that the government under Sali Berisha is only acting in its own interest to lower the critically high national debt with the money it has won. INSIG is the only state insurance company in Albania.
