Institute Vienna Circle - Vienna Circle Society

The Institute Wiener Kreis was founded in 1991 by Friedrich Stadler together with followers of the Wiener Kreis as an association for the promotion of a scientific worldview and has since been dedicated to the work and effects of the Vienna Circle of Logical Empiricism . In 2011 the association became a sub-unit (institute) of the Faculty of Philosophy and Educational Science at the University of Vienna as the "Institut Wiener Kreis" . The association that continues to exist has been called " Wiener Kreis Gesellschaft " since 2016 and works in close cooperation with the university institute Wiener Kreis.

" Aims both to document and further develop the work and impact of the Vienna Circle in the field of science and popular education, which has been neglected so far, as well as to maintain and apply logical-empirical, critical-rational and language-analytical thinking and acting to build a scientific philosophy and worldview in Connection with general socio-cultural currents. A major goal of these efforts is the democratization of knowledge and science as an educational work against all irrationalism, dogmatism and fundamentalism in a social context and in accordance with the latest international research.   • Research projects and editions : Moritz Schlick Complete Edition (in collaboration with the University of Rostock), Ernst Mach study edition, numerous ongoing and completed research projects
  • University teaching : Participation in the Master's program History and Philosophy of Science and (until 2019) in the FWF doctoral program The Sciences in Historical, Philosophical, and Cultural Contexts
  • Since 2001 organization of the annual Vienna International Summer University - Scientific World Conceptions , from 2015 as University Summer School - Scientific World Conceptions (uss / swc)
  • In 2015 the Institute of the Vienna Circle at the University of Vienna organized the first exhibition on the Vienna Circle

The Vienna Circle Society maintains a research library u. a. with books and archives by Otto Neurath , Robert S. Cohen, Kurt Blaukopf , Kurt R. Fischer , Eugene T. Gadol, Arthur Pap and Paul Weingartner .
