The Conservatoire de Lausanne (old name: Institut de musique de Lausanne ) is a conservatory in Lausanne .
history
It was founded in 1861 with the intention of enabling amateurs to study music and - at the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne (HEMU) - to train future professional musicians. Since 1990, the conservatory has been housed in the former Galeries de Commerce in the Saint-François district. The HEMU is part of the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland .
The Conservatory currently has three departments, one for classical music, a college for jazz and a music school. Around 300 students study classical music there, around 60 jazz and 1200 pupils attend the music school.
In a further branch, future music teachers who are enrolled at the pedagogical college, the Haute école pédagogique vaudoise , receive instruction both in music and music theory. A collaboration with the University of Lausanne (UNIL) is in preparation in connection with the university's newly established chair for music.
Attached to the conservatory is a library with scores , specialist literature and general reference works, which is available to professors, students and pupils.
Since 1909 a drama school (Section professionnelle d'art dramatique du Conservatoire de Lausanne, SPAD) was affiliated to the Conservatory, which was merged into the HETSR in 2003.
