The Institute for Applied Computer Science eV at the University of Leipzig ( InfAI ) is an affiliated institute at the University of Leipzig with the purpose of "promoting science and research in the fields of computer science and business informatics".

history

The institute was founded in 2006 and is organized as a non-profit registered association . On the basis of §95 of the Saxon Higher Education Act, the University of Leipzig recognized the InfAI as an affiliated institute on October 14, 2008 under the rectorate of Franz Häuser .

Expertise and fields of work

The InfAI taps the skills of around 100 specialists in applied computer science and bundles the expertise of 20 professors in computer science and business informatics in Central Germany. The institute represents most areas of applied computer science, especially applied software technology. The focus is on company and inter-company information systems, business-oriented and private customer-oriented web applications , big data , smart data, semantic technologies, system integration and software technology for the service industry.

The InfAI has a cooperation network. Challenges and opportunities are discussed across industries, with the focus being on showing new ways of digitization for applied computer science and strengthening the ability to innovate in this industry within the region and beyond.

The content-related processing of the individual topics usually takes place within the various competence centers of the InfAI, currently these are:

  • Biomedical Data Science
  • Knowledge Integration & Linked Technologies
  • Smart data analytics
  • Semantic data management
  • Smart Energy Systems

Importance in research

Various globally important research activities are coordinated at InfAI. In addition to the necessary legal framework, the InfAI also provides the relevant specialist expertise and coordinates the parties involved.

The InfAI also worked and works in joint research for the State of Saxony, the Federal Republic of Germany and the European Union as well as in industrial research and advising companies.
