The Instituto de Defesa Nacional IDN ( German  National Institute for Defense ) is in East Timor , the University of the Timor Leste Defense Force (F-FDTL) and National Police of East Timor (PDTL). Since May 3rd, 2012 the captain has been Pedro Klamar Fuik .

The Instituto de Defesa Nacional wants to contribute to the development of national, strategic thinking. It also offers cultural, artistic, technological and scientific training in military and police sciences. This should serve to exercise the authority of command in the security forces and provide support in joint operations by the police and the army or in international organizations. Academic and technical training is also given to senior technicians, officials in the intelligence services and public administration bodies and private institutions.

There are also courses in addition to the degree programs for obtaining a diploma, such as promotion, qualification and further training courses and internships. To this end, the Instituto de Defesa Nacional conducts research, promotes debates on questions of defense and national security, and transfers knowledge.

The Instituto de Defesa Nacional aims to serve as the national standard, in terms of quality and excellence in teaching, study, research and discussion, with the aim of upgrading personnel in the armed forces, police and services to contribute to the Ministry of Defense and Security as well as the public administration. It also aims to create a national defense and security awareness that can contribute to economic and social development through its focus on the creation, transmission and dissemination of culture, knowledge and science.

The aim of the Instituto de Defesa Nacional is that instructors and students achieve a high intellectual level and learn a preference for research and scientific work. The learning objective also includes human values, a national awareness and a sense of duty towards the well-being and prosperity of society. It is also intended to promote understanding, harmony and solidarity between cultures and peoples.

Legal

The Instituto de Defesa Nacional was created on August 26th with Law 12/2010 (Decreto-Lei n.º 12/2010) . This also defines the structure, allocation and responsibilities. The institute is subordinate to the member responsible for defense in the government cabinet , usually the Minister of Defense . According to Law 12/2006, the Instituto de Defesa Nacional has its own administrative, financial and property rights.
