The Instytut Technologii Elektronowej ( ITE for short ) is a Polish research institution. The ITE conducts basic and applied research in micro and nanotechnology.

history

The Instytut Technologii Elektronowej was founded in 1966 by the Council of Ministers as a research institution of the Polish Academy of Sciences , with the aim of conducting basic and applied research in semiconductor electronics and physics. In 1970 the ITE was transformed into an industrial institute under the supervision of the Ministry of Industry and affiliated to the Naukowo-Produkcyjne Centrum Mikroelektroniki ( CEMI ) ( German  research and production center for microelectronics ). The new research assignment was the development of new semiconductor components and technologies. In addition, the newly developed technologies should be transferred to mass production by the ITE and production should be supervised. In 1991 the ITE left the CEMI and became an independent research and development institute again under the supervision of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. On this occasion, the goal of the institute was redefined: The goal since then has been research at an international level and the development of new semiconductor technologies for new products. In 2000 a new pilot line for silicon semiconductors ( silicon processing pilot line ) was opened in Piaseczno . In April 2002 the research and development center for hybrid microelectronics and resistors in Krakow was incorporated into the ITE.

The ITE has been ISO 9001: 2002 certified since 2002 .

In its history, the ITE has received a number of national and international awards.

Research and Development

The ITE has eight research departments:

• Department of Photonics is dedicated to researching new light sources for industrial, medical and environmental applications. This includes research into new laser technologies and optical detectors.
• Division of Silicon Microsystem and Nanostructure Technology researches a wide range of technologies for micro- and nanotechnology, from optical detectors to complete integrated systems.
• Department of Micro- and Nanotechnology of Wide Bandgap Semiconductors researches manufacturing processes and components based on various semiconductors , such as III-V semiconductors, GaN, GaSb and ZnO.
• Department of Microelectronics (Krakow) conducts research in the fields of ceramic materials, micro-assembly , medical electronics and measurement technology.
• Department of Materials and Semiconductor Structures Research deals with the structural, optical and electrical characterization of materials and components.
• Department of Integrated Circuits and Systems deals with the development and design of microelectronic circuits and micro-technical systems. The current focus is on the integration of heterogeneous systems, the development of RF circuits and the electromagnetic compatibility of ICs .
• Department of Characterization of Nanoelectronic Structures develops new methods for characterizing MOS devices and other semiconductor nanostructures. New physical models are being developed for the new methods.
• Department of Analysis of Semiconductor Nanostructures

Two competence centers were also recently opened. CEPHONA researches the physics and technology for the production of photonic nanostructures. MANTARC conducts applied research in the field of micro- and nanotechnology. The aim of the center is to develop MEMS / MOEMS for scientific and industrial applications.
