The Bavarian Integration Commissioner advises and supports the Bavarian State Government in questions of integration, asylum and migration policy. He is appointed and dismissed by the Prime Minister.

Under the name of Integration Commissioner of the Bavarian State Government , the office was introduced by the state government at state level in 2009. In doing so, it reacted to the changing composition of the population in the Free State of Bavaria , where around 2.5 million people with a migration background now live.

function

The office is independent and cross-departmental. Organizationally, it is assigned to a division or the State Chancellery where an office is set up. The integration officer works with all ministries of state, especially on integration-specific issues relating to the school, professional, communal and social integration of people with a migration background. He processes the suggestions of individual affected persons, of associations and migrant organizations and is the link for municipal integration officers in the Free State. It suggests measures to improve the integration of people with a migration background.

The office was exercised by Martin Neumeyer from its inception until the end of February 2017 . On March 1, 2017, Kerstin Schreyer took over this position. On March 21, 2018, Mechthilde Wittmann was appointed her successor. On November 27, 2018, Gudrun Brendel-Fischer was appointed acting integration officer by the Council of Ministers.
