Intel 8 series
The Intel 8 series is a series of motherboard chipsets from Intel and the successor to the Intel 7 series . The chipset series is also led under the code name "Lynx Point" and supports the processors of the Haswell generation. The successor is the Intel 9 series .
description
The Lynx Point were officially presented by Intel on June 1, 2013, in advance of the market launch of the Haswell processors. Compared to its predecessor, the chipsets have primarily been expanded to include more USB 3.0 and more SATA III ports , while native PCI support has been removed. There is no separate chipset for the Ivy Bridge E processors (socket 2011). The X79 chipset was used for this. Even before the market launch, it became known that there were problems with the C1 stepping of the chipsets. Due to this bug, it could happen that a USB 3.0 device is no longer accessible after waking up from S3 mode. Corrected mainboards with C2 stepping were already listed at online retailers in July 2013.

Remarks
- ↑ With some H87 and B85 chipsets, it is possible to enable this function with BIOS updates. Intel tried to limit this unwanted possibility with a firmware update.
- ↑ Indicates how many monitors the IGP can control at the same time. Monitors that are controlled by a graphics card are independent of this .
