Intel 7 series
The Intel 7 series is a series of motherboard chipsets from Intel and the successor to the Intel 6 series . The chipset series is also codenamed “Panther Point” and supports the processors of the Ivy Bridge generation.
description
The Panther Point chipsets were officially presented by Intel on April 8, 2012, in advance of the launch of the Ivy Bridge processors. The Intel 7 series is a refresh of the Cougar Point series, which has primarily been expanded to include native USB 3.0 support.
On November 14, 2011, Intel presented the X79 chipset for the Sandy Bridge E processors, which is part of the Intel 7 series, but is not codenamed Panther Point, but Patsburg. It is also the only chipset in the series that is designed for the 2011 socket.

Remarks
- ↑ The "CPU Performance Tuning" feature was called "Intel Extreme Tuning" in the Cougar Point series and is required for using the open multiplier with K processors.
- ↑ Is required to use the graphics unit integrated in the processor.
- ↑ Officially referred to as "Intel Smart Response Technology".
- ↑ Due to the lack of validation, Intel officially only provides support for the PCIe 2.0 standard, although the specifications for PCIe 3.0 are met.
- ↑ Officially only on Z68 / Z77 / H77 / Q77 chipsets, but with some mainboard manufacturers in the high-end segment can be activated via BIOS + driver update.
