Inter-Varsity Press ( IVP ) used to be the publication organ of the Universities and Colleges Christian Fellowship . The company claims to publish more than a million books annually in over 150 countries and translate into more than 90 different languages. Due to a change in strategy at the UCCF in 2005, IVP became organizationally independent, which enabled IVP to focus on expanding the publishing industry, while the publishing house continues to offer support to theology students and students from other subjects worldwide.

In 2015 IVP was placed under the management of the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge (SPCK). The SPCK agreed a comprehensive plan with the IVP trustees to refinance the IVP and to secure the financing so that the publisher can continue to exist as an evangelical Christian publisher in a digitized environment.

history

IVP had been a publisher since the 1930s. The books were originally published under the name "Inter-Varsity Fellowship-IVF". Ronald Inchley (1912-13 April 2005) was accepted by Douglas Johnson as IVF's Publications Secretary soon after graduating from the University of Birmingham in 1936 . He held this post until 1976 , with a brief interruption during World War II .

After Inchley, Frank Entwistle became the Publishing Director . Entwistle joined IVP in 1973 and remained in this position until he retired in 2002.

Even before August 2004, IVP was acting as the trade organization of the Inter-Varsity Fellowship Trust Limited . In 2004 IVP was then registered as a separate company based in Nottingham and Charity ( non-profit organization ). At the time, the staff were based in the UCCF offices in Leicester , while the warehouse and dispatch department was based in Norton Street , Nottingham, where he had moved from London in the 1970s. IVP publishes and distributes Christian literature worldwide with a decidedly conservative evangelical ethos, based on the beliefs of the UCCF.
