The interdisciplinary research association for railway technology e. V. (IFV Eisenbahnechnik e.V., Interdisciplinary Railway Research Network ) is an association with the aim of promoting the further development of rail technology and traffic engineering.

This includes the tasks of research funding, profiling at the participating institutions, interdisciplinary cooperation, cooperation with operators and the railway industry, dissemination and discussion of research results in publications and events.

history

IFVbahnechnik e. V. in 1995. The founding initiative came from the Technical University of Berlin and the Senate Administration of the Federal State of Berlin , with the aim of promoting the modernization of rail technology through an interdisciplinary research network. The seat of the association is Berlin; the association has an internationally unrestricted radius of action with a geographical focus on German-speaking Europe. On December 18, 2015, the association celebrated the twenty-year anniversary of the association in the Berlin House of Representatives with a ceremony under the patronage of the President of Parliament.

Members of the association are buyers, operators, manufacturers, service providers, research institutions, associations and press representatives.

According to the articles of association (as amended on January 31, 2012), the association is represented by the board. The board of directors includes Prof. Dr. Raphael Pfaff (Aachen University of Applied Sciences, Department of Rail Vehicle Technology) as board spokesman and board members Mihai Demian (Certified Consultant), Michael Brandhorst (Photon Meissener Technologies GmbH), Steffen Kürth ( Siemens Mobility GmbH ) join the board of the association. Rüdiger Wendt (TBG Technisches Gemeinschaftsbüro GmbH) was elected as a member of the extended board. The previous spokesman for the board, Prof. Dr. Pedro D. Portella ( Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing ) remains associated with the association as a member of the scientific advisory board. The former board spokesman Markus Hecht ( Technische Universität Berlin ) was made an honorary member and appointed spokesman for the IFV BAHNTECHNIK advisory board. The organs of the association are advised by an advisory board made up of around 30 experts, which consists of three sub-advisory boards:

  • Scientific Advisory Board
  • Political and social advisory board
  • Economic Advisory Board.

The association organizes an extensive competence network in more than 25 specialist areas of rail and traffic technology. The federal office of the association is based in Berlin - on the grounds of the Technical University of Berlin am Salzufer.
