Interest group FOR healthy food

The interest group for healthy food (IG FÜR) is a registered association recognized as a non-profit in February 2001 with seat in Fulda and an office in Berlin .

purpose

“The purpose of the association is to use factual information to develop awareness of the importance of healthy food for people's health. To this end, the association wants to inform the public and consumers of foods about their origins, their production and processing, their structure and composition. "

Goals and mission statement

In 1997 the grocer Georg Sedlmaier founded the IG FÜR under the motto “Food is a means to life! And every purchase is your voting slip! ” . The purpose of the association is to create awareness for healthy foods that are in harmony with creation. IG FÜR takes a holistic view of food, from the creation of the raw materials to the consumer's plate. The association works nationwide to impart knowledge and to show positive effects as well as beneficial effects of healthy food. He is addressing producers, industry and trade, politics and science and, last but not least, consumers. The association is committed to an exchange of experiences with people from a wide variety of positions, interest groups, parties and companies.

In Fulda and Kempten, the association organizes monthly lecture evenings for consumers on current key topics, for example “Are good food scarce?” (In cooperation with the World Future Council ), “Widespread diseases can be eaten and drunk! But health too! ”.

In addition, the association provides information on current topics at events for social and political groups as well as on radio programs.

According to the motto “Strengthening good people”, “Companies and owners who are outstandingly committed to the ideas and goals of IG FÜR, which make a significant contribution to raising awareness” are awarded the IG FÜR letter of honor in silver and gold. Joseph Wilhelm ( Rapunzel Naturkost ), Thomas Bruch (Globus Holding), Alain Caparros (formerly REWE Group) and Jürgen Mäder ( EDEKA Südwest ) received the Golden Letter of Honor .

Members and supporters

There are around 700 members from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Spain and Egypt. In addition to private individuals, companies in the food industry, church and political organizations, professional associations and other institutions are members. Among the honorary members are, for example, Helmy Abouleish, Managing Director of SEKEM and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Heliopolis University for Sustainable Development in Cairo, Johann Lafer , Cem Özdemir , Reinhold Messner and Vandana Shiva .

organization

The association is headed by a voluntary executive board, chaired by Georg Sedlmaier. A scientific advisory board advises the board. This is interdisciplinary and supports the board as an independent body on a voluntary basis. The scientific advisory board includes Peter Hamel, Manfred Hoffmann , Gerd Jahreis, Claus Leitzmann , Michael Leitzmann, Uwe Meier, Ruth Tippe (scientific advice from Testbiotech) and Christoph Then (managing director and scientific director of Testbiotech).

Publications

"IG FÜR Magazin" appears three times a year.

Georg Sedlmaier brought out seven books, most recently "The Art of Small Steps" (2020), "Is Eating Religion?" (2017), "Diversity instead of simplicity" (2014) and "Healthy through life" (2010) (all published by BoD Verlag).
