Intermediate rock

An intermediate rock is igneous rock with an SiO 2 content between 52 and 63 percent by weight . It lies between the basic rock (45 and 52%) and the acidic rock (more than 63%).

Typical intermediate rocks are andesite and trachyte ( volcanic / aphanitic ) as well as diorite and syenite ( plutonic / phaneritic ).
