International Association of Labor History Institutions
The International Association of Labor History Institutions (IALHI) is an international umbrella organization of archives , libraries and museums with a focus on the labor movement and social movements .
The IALHI was founded in 1970 at the suggestion of the Archives of the British Labor Party . German founding members were the German Federation of Trade Unions and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation .
There are about 80 members. The chair (“Secretary”) changes every three years. The secretary is supported by an international board of directors ("Co-ordination committee"). The office is located at the International Institute for Social History in Amsterdam .
A conference takes place every year and is documented in conference proceedings . The task of the international association is to help smaller institutions in developing countries and to implement conventional and digital cooperative development projects and documentation. IALHI operates an alert service for journal articles. On behalf of the European Commission, IALHI is building a " Best Practice " network to integrate digitized data and metadata into the Europeana .
