International Association of Paper Historians

The International Association of Paper Historians (IPH) ( German  Internationale Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Papierhistoriker , French Association Internationale des Historiens du Papier ) is an international association for research into the history of paper .

history

The association was founded in Bamberg in 1959 by representatives from the two German states that existed at the time, Switzerland and the Netherlands. To name are u. a. Fritz Blaser, Theo Gerardy , Robert Grosse-Stoltenberg, Armin Renker , Wolfgang Schlieder, Toni Schulte, Lore Sporhan-Krempel , Henk Voorn and Wisso Weiß. Emile Joseph Labarre , the founder of the Paper Publications Society in Hilversum, was represented by A. M. van der Feltz. At the 25th anniversary of the association, members from around 40 nations were recorded in 1984. The association brought together experts from archives, libraries and museums, from industry and trade, restorers, paper artists, etc. In the journal Papiergeschichte , published since 1951 by the Association of Pulp and Paper Chemists and Engineers / Research Center for Paper History in Mainz , the new association had an internationally recognized journalistic platform for all questions of paper history and watermark research right from the start.

activities

It holds international congresses every two years and publishes their results. In addition, the periodical IPH Paper History has been published every six months since 2009 . By publishing an international standard for the registration of papers with or without watermarks (1992, 1997 and 2012), the IPH has a significant influence on the uniform description of historically traditional paper documents.
