The IDO Executive Presidium (EPM) manages the day-to-day business and consists of the President, the Senior Vice President and the management. The IDO Presidium consists of the EPM and six Vice Presidents with special tasks.

Nils Håkan Carlzon and Bill Fowler were honored with Honorary Lifetime Presidents .

At the Annual General Meeting (AGM), the Presidium elects 3 representatives each year in a staggered election. The President, Senior Vice President and Executive Board are elected along with two Vice Presidents each in consecutive years. Each term of office is three years. The three Department Directors for Performing Arts, Street Dance, and Couple Dance are elected every three years during their Annual Department Meeting (ADM) and also serve on the Bureau.

The AGM is also responsible for all changes to the statutes and regulations. The ADMs are responsible for the dance sport rules, which are ratified by the AGM. In order to give experts in each field the opportunity to discuss departmental matters at the dancer level, the IDO has set up the following committees and departments:

  • Adjudication committee
  • Disciplinary committee
  • Education committee
  • Latino / Couple Dance department
  • Performing Arts department
  • Street Dance department
  • Chairperson of scrutineers

Belonging to world dance sport associations

From 1991 to 2013, the IDO was a member of the World Dance Council (WDC) in London. From 2006 to 2012 the IDO was also affiliated to the International DanceSport Federation (IDSF). This enabled the IDO to officially recognize the titles awarded by championships. When the IDSF changed its name to the World Dance Sport Federation (WDSF), the IDO decided not to renew its previous affiliation and thus to preserve its independence. In 2013 the IDO worked for the first time with the World DanceSport Federation. The World Dance Sport Federation (WDSF) is a member of SportAccord and the International Olympic Committee ( International Olympic Committee - IOC recognized). Together, the two associations organized their dancers to take part in the 2013 World Games in Cali , Colombia, and the Hip Hop & Caribbean Dances at the World Dance Sport Games in Kaohsiung , Taiwan.

In addition to working with championships and festivals, the IDO has set up a Hall of Fame. In the hall on Fame, greats of the dance world, dancers and dance enthusiasts are honored who have made significant contributions to the dance world of the IDO.

The IDO follows the anti-doping requirements.
