International Edvard Grieg Piano Competition
The International Edvard Grieg Piano Competition is named after Edvard Grieg and is a piano competition for pianists aged 17 to 33 that is organized every two years by the Edvard Grieg Museum Troldhaugen in Bergen ( Norway ). The competition has been a member of the World Association of International Music Competitions since 2017.
history
The music competition Convours Grieg was founded in 2000 by the Norwegian pianist Einar Steen-Nøkleberg in Oslo and took place at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo until 2011 . He has been a member of the Alink Argerich Foundation since then . Since 2012, competition in Troldhaugen will take place in Bergen and International Edvard Grieg Piano Competition (Engl. International Edvard Grieg Piano Competition ) renamed.
The Stiftelsen Foundation Kristian Gerhard Jebsen has been the main sponsor since 2014 . In 2020 the competition had to be postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic .
Prices
The prizes are monetary amounts between € 1,000 (audience award) and € 30,000 (first prize). In addition to the second (€ 20,000) and third (€ 10,000) prize, the best performance of a work by Edvard Grieg and the best performance of a work by Ørjan Matre are awarded, as well as orchestral and semi-finalist awards.
