The International Federation of Competitive Eating, Inc. ( IFOCE for short ) hosts and organizes eating competitions worldwide . The most important events include the International Hot Dog Eating Contest , which is held annually in New York on Independence Day , as well as the La Costena "Feel the Heat" Jalapeño eating contest and the Krystal Square Off Word Hamburger Eating Championship. IFOCE was founded in 1997 by the brothers George and Richard Shea. Today the association organizes hundreds of such events worldwide. IFOCE's headquarters are in New York City and IFOCE is also active in Japan, Great Britain, Germany, Canada and Thailand.

IFOCE has committed thousands of weather eaters to only appear at their competitions. The best known are Joey Chestnut from California and the Korean-born American Sonya Thomas . Both have won the International Hot Dog Eating Contest. The competitor also includes the Japanese Takeru Kobayashi , with whom the IFOCE is conducting a legal dispute because he also takes part in events that are not organized by the IFOCE.

IFOCE also organizes TV shows that deal with eating competitions. For example, in 2002 this included Glutton Bowl , a two-hour dining contest that aired on Fox Network .
