The International Mountain Summit (IMS) was an independent and international congress that took place from 2009 to 2018 in the autumn in Brixen in South Tyrol . At the IMS, top mountaineers, young alpinists and climbers as well as other mountain friends came together to exchange experiences, discuss trends and celebrate a mountain festival together with amateur athletes and interested parties.

history

The IMS was created in 2009 from the idea of Markus Gaiser and Alex Ploner to revive the custom of climbing . In late autumn, the mountaineers met in the Dolomites for the last climbing tours of the year. New contacts were made and projects discussed. In keeping with this old tradition, the IMS offered the opportunity to get to know one another, to celebrate and to talk shop.

The festival

The IMS presented annually in the Forum Brixen events on the subject of mountains, such as lectures, discussions, congresses, hikes, climbing and photography workshops, bouldering and photo competitions, film screenings and art exhibitions. The IMS offered up to 50 different events annually.

In its first 5 years the IMS recorded 32,000 visitors, an annual increase of approx. 11% over the previous year. Approx. 25% of the guests came from abroad to the IMS in South Tyrol. 120 accredited journalists from 9 countries attended the mountain festival in 2013. Photographers from almost 100 countries took part in the international photo competition.
