Forum Brixen

The Forum Brixen is a culture and congress center in the immediate vicinity of the medieval old town of Brixen in the Eisack Valley ( South Tyrol / Italy).

The well-networked event house with six versatile rooms with multi-media technology are ideal for meetings, seminars and congresses, but also for cultural events such as theater or concerts. The 2,000 m² building, which is interesting from an architectural and historical point of view, includes six halls of different sizes, three foyers, two artists' cloakrooms, a kitchen and several offices.

history

The history of the building at the intersection of Rome and Dantestrasse dates back to 1933. The architects Francesco Mansutti and Gino Miozzo from Padua had it as Casa Balilla , ie as a gym for the fascist youth organization " Gioventù italiana del littorio " (GIL), projected. But after the end of the war and after various types of use, the ex-GIL site fell into disrepair as evidence of an unloved history ( fascism in South Tyrol) for many years. Until the municipality of Brixen discovered it in 1993 while looking for the right area for a cultural center with a wide range of uses.

architecture

Erected in the style of Italian rationalism , the GIL building formed the first counterpoint to the grown medieval core of Bressanone. In interaction with the buildings in the nearby Kreuzgasse, an interesting, self-contained quarter was formed.

The architectural office “Arch” (Colombi, Dalsass, De Dominicis) supplemented the listed building fabric in 2000 with contemporary architecture made of glass, wood and concrete. The facade towards Romstrasse is still in the typical terracotta red and with the clear, geometric lines of the original building. Together with the EURAC ( European Academy Bozen ), the Forum Brixen is one of the few remaining examples of Italian architecture from the interwar period in South Tyrol.

use

In 2001, when Bressanone celebrated its 1,100th anniversary, the city administration symbolically gave the new event venue to the citizens of Bressanone. Owned by the municipality, the culture and congress center was run as an independent GmbH. In March 2012, the Forum Brixen and the municipal swimming pool Acquarena were incorporated into Stadtwerke Brixen AG, an in-house company of the municipality of Brixen, which has since been responsible for both companies. Today the Forum Bressanone is a venue for all kinds of events and an important conference location in South Tyrol (e.g. pediatric training, solar architecture, International Mountain Summit ).
