International Society for Historical Alpine Research

The International Society for Historical Alpine Research (Association Internationale pour l'Histoire des Alpes, Associazione Internazionale per la Storia delle Alpi, International Society for Alpine History) based in Lucerne promotes research on the history of the European Alps and publishes an annual journal. The Laboratorio di Storia delle Alpi at the University of Italian Switzerland is the company's office and develops its own scientific activities.

The society deals with the history of the Alpine region of France , Monaco , Italy , Switzerland , Liechtenstein , Austria , Germany , Slovenia and promotes scientific contacts with mountain regions in other parts of Europe and the world. It was founded in 1995 by the Swiss historian Jean-François Bergier . It organizes biennial congresses at changing locations in the Alps on specific topics such as spatial mobility; Mountains and city; material culture, etc. Since the 2000s, the company has launched its own research initiative on the history of tourism. The Society's membership rights are tied to the subscription to the magazine.

The company's magazine has been called "Histoire des Alpes - Storia delle Alpi - History of the Alps" since 1996 . A “forum” section is available every second year for individual contributions from researchers from the Alpine region and other regions. LabiSAlp

The Laboratorio di Storia delle Alpi (LabiSAlp) is part of the Università della Svizzera italiana (Faculty Accademia di Architettura) and is located in the Villa Argentina, a building from the 19th century in Mendrisio ( Ticino , Switzerland ). The LabiSAlp is the company's office and develops its own activities in this area. It organizes scientific conferences and public lectures and provides a meeting place for a group of young “associated researchers” from universities in the Alpine region and beyond. It also initiates research projects or participates in them - for example on the history of the perception of the Alps since the Renaissance ; across the Alps in wartime; about regional economic development in the Alps; on the history of tourism and territorial regulation, etc. In addition to the annual publication, LabiSAlp also publishes the book series “Studies on Alpine History” and the working papers “Percorsi di ricerca” .
