The international dance fair is a fair for trade visitors , where artists, cultural institutions and organizers present themselves. It is accompanied by an artistic framework program aimed at an audience interested in dance.
history
The international dance fair was initiated in 1994 by the Society for Contemporary Dance NRW e. V., the city of Essen , the North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry of Culture and the NRW Art Foundation . As a regional event, mainly aimed at artists and choreographers from North Rhine-Westphalia, it took place in 1994, 1997 and 2000 at the Zeche Zollverein in Essen. The initiator and director (1994–2000) was Anna Neumann-Schultheis. During this period, the dance fair developed from a regional event into a meeting place for the international dance scene.
The international tanzmesse biennal has been a guest in Düsseldorf since 2002. The event period is four days, at the end of August each time. It is a meeting point for artists, cultural institutions, agencies, dance scholars and organizers from all over the world. The exhibition halls of the dance fair are located in the NRW-Forum Kultur und Wirtschaft . The trade fair for trade visitors is accompanied by a dance festival that takes place in Düsseldorf, Leverkusen and Krefeld and is aimed at audiences interested in dance. From 2002 to 2013 Kajo Nelles headed the international dance fair. In 2014 Felix Wittek took over the management.
