The International Fireworks Competition in Hanover is an internationally renowned competition for pyrotechnicians that was first held in 1991. The venue is the Herrenhausen Gardens . On five evenings between May and September, pyrotechnicians from all over the world compete against each other in the Great Garden in order to stage fireworks choreographies in compulsory and freestyle to pieces of music. The competition is organized by Hannover Veranstaltungs GmbH (HVG).

Supporting program

The events are accompanied by a supporting program. Before the fireworks teams present their interpretation of the compulsory piece and the subsequent freestyle to the audience, live music, cabaret shows , walk acts and theater , thematically tailored to the participating country, shorten the waiting time for the guests. Many visitors use the time before the fireworks , which start at nightfall, to picnic and stroll in the baroque gardens .

Procedure and rules

Entry to the Royal Gardens (for the competition) starts at 6pm. A jury decides who wins the competition . The basis for the decision are the competitive conditions of the International Fireworks Competition. The fireworks lasts around 25 minutes and includes a compulsory part of around four minutes. In it, the teams present a fireworks show based on a classical piece of music selected by the organizer every year.

The pyrotechnicians should orientate themselves on the baroque garden in their staging. The minimum number of floor elements is specified; Otherwise there are hardly any limits to creativity, the choice of music for the freestyle and the visual language. The jury evaluates, among other things, the craftsmanship, the freedom from defects, the quality, the variety of elements and the synchronicity of the fireworks with the music.

The winner of the five participating nations will be determined on the last evening of the event. The first three winning teams will be honored at the award ceremony that follows. The winning team must first present its freestyle in the following year.
