The International Hand Washing Day was launched by the World Health Organization - WHO and takes place annually on October 15th ; it was first committed in 2008.

Partners in the campaign include Unicef , the World Bank and the United States' Centers for Disease Control and Prevention .

The target groups of the International Handwashing Day are adults and children , kindergartens such as schools, old people's homes and hospitals as well as other health care facilities. Intensive washing of the hands with soap should be done especially before and after eating, after using the toilet or before and after diapers and swaddling .
