from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The International Whores 'Day in English-speaking countries International Sex Workers' Day called, is an unofficial day of remembrance, of the discrimination against prostitutes recalls and their often exploitative living and working conditions. The starting point of the International Whore Day as a day of remembrance was June 2, 1975, on which more than 100 prostitutes occupied the Saint-Nizier church in Lyon to draw attention to their situation. Remembrance day has been celebrated annually on June 2nd since 1976 .

background

In the early 1970s, French law enforcement agencies put increasing pressure on prostitutes in France . The police reprisals forced the women to work increasingly in secret. As a result, their protection by the public no longer existed and this led to increased acts of violence against them. After two murders and the government's unwillingness to improve the situation of prostitutes, sex workers in Lyon finally occupied one of the local churches - Saint-Nizier on rue de Brest - and went on strike. After eight days the church was evacuated by the police. The event is seen as the starting point of the whore movement .

Germany

In Germany, the International Whore Day was first proclaimed on June 2, 1989 by communication scientist Laura Méritt .
