Arraial da Ajuda
Arraial da Ajuda (also: "Arraial d'Ajuda"; officially Portuguese Distrito de Arraial d'Ajuda ) is a tourist district of Porto Seguro in the Brazilian state of Bahia .
It is a historical place located on a high plateau above the coast. There are around 100 pousadas in and around the beach, these are small but well-equipped hotels, some with tropical gardens and often with their own swimming pools. Some pousadas are now also in beach areas. The nearby national park and Indian reservation of Monte Pascoal as well as the white beaches and marine lagoons in the area attract not only Brazilian but also international tourists every year. There is the possibility of doing coastal walks to the nearby town of Trancoso (Bahia) and beyond to the nature reserve of Monte Pascoal.

You can reach Arraial da Ajuda either via a newly built road over the hinterland or you can cross the river Rio Bunharém with small ferries directly in the center of Porto Seguro , which flows into the sea here. Those who choose this route will reach Arraial da Ajuda after a 5 km drive.
history
Arraial da Ajuda, like the neighboring towns of Trancoso (Bahia) , Porto Seguro and Santa Cruz Cabrália, is strongly connected to the history of Brazilian discovery and conquest. The first settlements were built on Arraial da Ajuda in the 16th century. The place, because of its good views of the sea, quickly became a center of conquerors and the church. The church Igreja Nossa Senhora d'Ajuda from 1549 is a building from this period, in which a Jesuit mission was built in Arraial da Ajuda. A spring that springs practically under the church is considered sacred. Arraial da Ajuda was developed as a place of defense against the attacks of the Indians. There are still a few pousadas shops and restaurants on the church square.
water sports
On the beaches between the ferry and Praia dos Pescadores it is possible to practice both kitesurfing and surfing . Surfing is only possible in one place, about 500 meters from the entrance to Praia dos Pescadores on the left.
