International Stasys Šimkus Choir Competition

The Stasys Šimkus Competition is an international choral music competition named after the composer Stasys Šimkus . It is the only prestigious choir competition in Lithuania . Founded in 1976 by the Aukuras Choir Association , it takes place every two years in Klaipėda . The competition cultivates the rich choral music culture of Lithuania - from old compositions by the most famous Lithuanian composers to the present day. In addition, there are performances of world-famous choral compositions from the Renaissance and Baroque to the present day.

The Stasys Šimkus Competition is one of the European choral music competitions and choir festivals. The European Choral Magazine of the European Choral Association Europa Cantat reports regularly on its program.
