action

The series is about four young medical students who, after completing their studies, complete their aspirations in the therapy department of a Moscow hospital. Above all, they become victims of the harassment and taunts of the cynical senior doctor Andrej Evgenjewitsch Bykow (played by Ivan Ochlobystin ) and get an insight into the intrigues of everyday hospital life. The professionally inexperienced medical students constantly get into embarrassing situations.

The screenwriter of this television series is Vyacheslav Zarlykanowitsch Dusmukhametov, who himself studied medicine. After completing his medical degree, Dusmukhametov himself did an aspiration in a therapy department of a hospital.

Leading roles

  • Andrej Evgenjewitsch Bykow ( Ivan Ochlobystin ) is the senior physician in charge of the therapy department and trainer for the four interns. Bykov is a talented doctor and is widely regarded throughout the hospital. He is a doctor with an extraordinarily good sense of humor , but is also characterized by his stubbornness, self-love and uncompromising attitude. Furthermore, Bykov is extremely cynical and even sarcastic. His speech disorder is also characteristic of Bykov. He suffers from dyslalia and therefore can not properly pronounce the letter R , which is rolled in Russian. Bykov often sets traps for his interns to get them into embarrassing situations. He explains this by saying that these are “educational measures”. His criticism of the work of his interns is often quite harsh. He likes to force interns who are particularly negative in everyday life to work night shifts. Bykov, who was a rocker in his youth , is originally from Saint Petersburg , is divorced and has a daughter named Alissa, who will be guest starring in seasons three and four. Andrei Evgenyevich Bykov has an affair with the chief physician Anastasija Konstantinovna Kisegatsch. Bykov's favorite hobby, which he pursues privately, is computer games, especially soccer simulations. In episode # 140, Bykov had a serious motorcycle accident after getting behind the wheel while drunk.
  • The interns:
  • Semyon Semjonowitsch Lobanow ( Alexander Ilyin ) is a simple, friendly young man who served in the Russian Army . He worked in the ambulance service while studying medicine, so he thinks he's experienced enough to be a doctor. However, his achievements in medical school were extremely modest. Otherwise Lobanov has a very high opinion of himself. Because of this, he often gets into the most embarrassing situations. Lobanov is constantly sleepy and complains about lack of money. He likes to throw himself into various adventures and intrigues, which, however, are often fatal due to his narrow-mindedness. Lobanov often presents himself as an aggressive daredevil who resolves conflicts not with words but with his fists. Accordingly, he has a fairly rough approach to his patients. He is also said to be rudeness and indolent. He is a passionate smoker and drinker. Until the second season he was still married to his wife Olga Lobanova, a very ambitious and talented lawyer . However, his wife filed for divorce because her husband did not want children with her. As a result of the separation from his wife, Lobanov lived in the hospital for a while, until he moved into a shared apartment with his friend and intern Gleb Romanenko. In the fifth season, Semyon Lobanov fell in love with the beautiful psychiatrist Irina Shemyakova. They were a couple at times. But Irina separated from Semjon because she was of the opinion that he still had feelings for his ex-wife Olga. Semjon actually got feelings for his ex-wife again and tried to win her love back, even though she is in a relationship with his colleague Phil Richards. Finally Semjon was able to fight for a second chance with his ex-wife and got back together with her. But the relationship broke up again after only two days.
  • Gleb Wiktorowitsch Romanenko ( Ilja Glinnikow ) is the son of chief physician Anastasija Konstantinovna Kisegatsch. That is why he is of the opinion that he doesn't have to work too hard for his internship because his mother will take care of everything for him. Romanenko only did medical school for the sake of his mother. Romanenko, who grew up without his father, is spoiled by his mother. He likes to go to expensive discos (although he doesn't tolerate alcohol badly) and drives a brand new, black Range Rover . Gleb Romanenko is a charming, polite womanizer and had a love affair with fellow intern Varwara Nikolajewna Tschjernouss during the first and second seasons. However, she broke up with him because he kept lying to her. In the third season he had a liaison with Alissa, the daughter of senior doctor Bykov. Romanenko lives into the day and is fully satisfied with his life. He is good friends with Semjon Lobanow, with whom he lives in a shared apartment from the fourth season. He often clashes with senior physician Bykov. Bykov would love to kick Romanenko out, but he cannot do so because his mother, the chief doctor, is naive behind her son. In the fourth season, Gleb briefly got together with his ex-girlfriend Varvara because he believed she was pregnant by him. When he found out that this was not the case, he separated from Varvara.
  • Varvara Nikolajewna Tschjernouss ( Kristina Asmus ) is the only female intern. She is naive, in good faith, and hates injustice. She approaches her tasks with the necessary seriousness, but is sometimes a little overzealous, which is to her disadvantage. She always tries to build a relationship with her patients as she believes this is an integral part of recovery. Tschjernouss tries to help everyone, but often forgets herself. She was in a relationship with Gleb Viktorovich Romanenko at times. In the third season she was in love with senior doctor Bykov. At the end of the fourth season, she slept with her ex-boyfriend Gleb Romanenko. While Varvara developed feelings for Gleb again, it was just a one-night stand for Gleb. Afterwards, Varvara claimed to be pregnant by Gleb in order to get back together with him. The two got together again, but Varvara was unable to confess to Gleb that she was pregnant. When she did admit it to Gleb, he separated from her.
  • Phil Richards ( Odin Lund Biron ) is a new intern who joins episode 67 (fourth season). Phil Richards is an American, but speaks Russian fluently because his mother is Russian. He previously worked as an intern at the Plainsboro-Teaching Hospital (known from the television series Dr. House ), where the former intern Boris Arkadyevich Levin is doing his stay abroad. Richards decided to stay abroad in Russia. Chief physician Anastasia Kisegatsch hired the young American without asking senior physician Bykov, because he would not agree with that anyway. The new intern is treated negatively by senior doctor Bykow (one of the first sentences Bykow said to Richards was: “Go into town, buy yourself a ushanka , a matryoshka and a bottle of vodka and then take the next plane back America. Yankee Go Home! " ). Phil Richards stands out as a self-confident and happy person, who sometimes also tends to be naive. In episode 89, it became known that Phil Richards was raised by homosexual parents. While Phil is very open about it, both his colleagues and his supervisor Bykow joke about it. From episode 107, Phil was in a relationship with Olga Lobanova, Semyon Lobanov's ex-wife. A short time later, the two separated amicably.
  • Ivan Natanowitsch Kupitman ( Wadim Demtschjog ) is a venereologist and head of his department. He is of Jewish descent, which Senior Doctor Bykow, with whom he is good friends, likes to joke. Kupitman himself likes to allude to the non-Jewish origins of the others (quote: Why do these Slavs have to make everything so infinitely complicated ?! alluding to his colleagues). However, Kupitman has a serious drinking problem. His favorite drink, for which he would give anything, is "good, French cognac ". Sometimes he disappears into the hospital archives for a few days and throws a drink there. However, despite all this, Kupitman has a good reputation in the hospital. His colleagues are happy to turn to him with problems. Kupitman loves beautiful young women. He was married three times, each marriage ending in divorce after just a few years.
  • Anastasija Konstantinovna Kisegatsch ( Swetlana Kamynina ) is the chief physician and mother of intern Gleb Romanenko. Anastasija Kisegatsch is very strong in leadership, but makes her decision too emotional. However, she has an extraordinary talent for wriggling out of difficult situations. She has a long affair with senior physician Bykov, although he often annoys her with his cynical manner. Bykov always calls her Nastja affectionately . In the fourth season, Anastasija lived with her new boyfriend Anton , which Bykov didn't like at all. After two months he broke up with her. The reason was that, despite her new boyfriend, Anastasia was very attracted to Bykov.
  • Lyubov Mikhailovna Skrjabina (Swetlana Permjakowa), often called Lyuba , is the head nurse of the therapy department. She is experienced and does her job well. In addition, she is always up to date and available for every gossip. Over the course of the series, she had a long affair with intern Boris Levin. We learn that she used to be in love with the senior doctor Bykow.

Supporting roles

  • Olga Lobanova ( Tatyana Ljannik ) - ex-wife of Semyon Lobanov and an ambitious lawyer and economist. At the end of the second season, she filed for divorce from her husband. In episode no. 105, her chief doctor Anastasia Kisegatsch offers a job as an accountant in the hospital where her ex-husband Semjon also works. Later, Olga Lobanova fell in love with Phil Richards of all people, her ex-husband's colleague. They initially kept their relationship a secret, but since the middle of the third season they have officially been a couple, which Semyon Lobanov doesn't like at all. A short time later, they separated amicably.
  • Galja (Elena Surkova) - nurse.
  • Irina Vitalievna Shemyakova ( Lidija Arefjewa ) - head of the psychiatric department. Semyon Lobanov's ex-girlfriend. Shemjakowa appeared at the beginning of the fifth season when she got into an argument with Semyon Lobanov, who was previously unknown to her, due to a triviality and he then had to make a meeting with her because Bykov had ordered him to do so. Lobanov fell in love with Shemyakova. At first Shemjakova was very afraid of Lobanov, who was mentally disturbed, and wanted nothing to do with him. In the course of the fifth season, however, she became interested in him, because "his quick-tempered nature paired with his infantile features" were quite attractive. She was in a relationship with him from episode 95 to episode 107. She broke up with Semyon Lobanov because she said he still had feelings for his ex-wife.
  • Ivanych (Eduard Ablam) - electrician at the hospital. He is work shy and has a particular preference for alcoholic beverages. He has his eye on head nurse Ljuba.
  • Marina Alexandrovna ( Lyudmila Tschursina ) - mother of chief physician Anastasia Kisegatsch. She doesn’t like to talk to senior physician Bykow, with whom her daughter is in a relationship.
  • Dawid Taimurasowitsch ( Wadim Zallati ) - senior physician and head of the anesthesiological department. He is of Ossetian origin.

Former characters

  • The former intern Boris Arkadyevich Levin ( Dmitri Sharakois ) completed his medical studies with top marks. Lewin therefore considers himself the smartest intern and likes to teach others. This doesn't always make him very popular. He dreams of becoming a famous and highly respected doctor and scientist. Lewin is well organized, reliable, punctual and speaks all of his “wise thoughts” on a dictation machine. He has excellent theoretical knowledge in the field of medicine and is even fluent in Latin . However, sometimes there is a lack of practical implementation of his knowledge. He is the most sensitive intern and is often offended by the senior doctor Bykow, who allegedly does not promote his talent sufficiently and only lets off cynical comments. Lewin often expresses himself disparagingly about what he believes to be "low" and "undemanding" activities of the nursing staff. With the senior nurse Lyubov Mikhailovna Scriabina, who was 15 years his senior, he had a long-term affair. Lewin is a very talented chess player. He is extremely nearsighted and can see next to nothing without glasses. At the end of the third season, Lewin leaves the hospital for a year abroad at the Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital (known from the television series Dr. House ) in the USA .
  • Alissa Andrejewna Bykowa (Maria Pirogowa) is the daughter of senior physician Bykow. She originally lived with her mother in Saint Petersburg, but in the third season she moved to her father in Moscow because she wanted to be a doctor. In the hospital, she met Gleb Romanenko, which her father did not agree with at all. However, she is similar in character to her father. She has a sense of humor and often a sarcastic manner. Alissa goes to discos, she likes to smoke and drink. At the beginning of the fourth season, Alissa Bykova began studying medicine, which she dropped out a short time later because she was no longer sure whether a life as a doctor would make her happy. In episode no. 63 she goes back to her mother in Saint Petersburg.
