Intracerebral

Intracerebral (lat. Intra- “located within something”, cerebrum “brain”) is a medical term and describes the position within the brain tissue of the telencephalon , in a broader sense the position within the entire brain tissue can also be meant. The term intracerebral is used for pathological changes such as intracerebral hemorrhage , for surgical interventions ( brain biopsy ) and for the injection of substances into the brain tissue.

In infection experiments in microbiology , the pathogen is injected intracerebrally in test animals in some diagnostic tests . This procedure is carried out , for example, when determining the pathogenicity index or for detecting rabies virus .

If only the cerebrospinal fluid is meant, it is called intrathecal , if the location is within the cerebellum , it is called intracerebellar .
