Ioffe is an impact crater on the back of the moon and therefore can not be directly observed from Earth . It is located south of the large Hertzsprung crater and connects to the south-western outer wall of the Fridman crater , which it slightly covers. It is only separated from the southeastern Belopol'skiy crater by a narrow strip of terrain.
Ioffe is a relatively young crater with a well-defined outer rim and stepped inner walls. Despite its youth, the outer edge is marked by subsequent impacts. There is a small crater at the point of the crater rim where Ioffe is connected to Fridman. The north-western edge also has a small crater. The inner crater floor is relatively flat with the exception of a low, irregular chain of hills that extends from a point just east of the center point to the south-southwestern crater inner wall. The inside of the crater was spared any noticeable impacts.
