Marcin Grochowina (* 1970 in Poland ) is a Polish musician, pianist, composer.

Career

Grochowina was already playing on Polish radio at the age of ten , and when he was fourteen he was honored in the competition for young piano artists. This enabled him to study at the Katowice Music School , an elite school that has produced many well-known artists. After graduating from high school, he studied at the Freiburg University of Music until he graduated as an artist . There he worked as a lecturer from 1994 to 2006. Since 2009 he has been teaching piano at the Bern Conservatory. He has now given concerts as a soloist and chamber musician in several European countries, the USA , Canada and China .

Marcin Grochowina is one of the very few concert pianists who, in addition to the classical repertoire, also masters jazz and improvisation on a high professional level. With unusual programs such as a George Gershwin project, compositions from the Theresienstadt concentration camp, etc. a. Grochowina tries to break through the specialization of the concert business and to combine the artistic gestures of composition and improvisation in a meaningful way. His piano recital Classic meets Jazz, recorded on Südwestrundfunk , with works by Ludwig van Beethoven , Frédéric Chopin , Duke Ellington and Miles Davis received a lot of attention.

In recent years Grochowina has also made a name for himself as a composer of film and radio play music. He was also the pianist of the Freiburg modern jazz ensemble Whisper Hot , with whom he also presented important cross-over projects, around the 250th anniversary of Bach's death in Leipzig, with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra .

In 1999, at the invitation of Yehudi Menuhin , he took part in the Menuhin for MUS-E concert . In numerous projects such as B. He runs a personal YouTube channel under the name jazzijazzful , on which he mainly publishes jazz covers.

He played u. a. with Ewa Bem , Magdalena Rezler-Niesiołowska, Michał Urbaniak , Nigel Kennedy , Adam Taubitz , Felix Borel, Volker Biesenbender , Titi Winterstein , Barbara Thompson , Wolfgang Fernow , Michael Küttner , Paulo Cardoso , Judy Roberts and Fabien Ruiz.
