The Ipswich Cardinals are an American football team from the English city of Ipswich .
history
The Cardinals were founded in January 1986. From 1987 they took part in the league game operation and quickly played their way up to the highest league level. In 1989 they failed in the final of the BNGL with 9:18 to the Norwich Devils, but in the following year the Cardinals triumphed with a 34:22 over the Clydesdale Colts and won their first BNGL championship. It should be noted that gaming in Great Britain at that time was divided into various leagues. The Cardinals are officially listed as champions in 1990, but there are also lists in which the Manchester Spartans , who played in the rival league NDMA, are listed as champions. But since the Cardinals represented Great Britain in the EFL in 1991 , they can be seen as champions. There they met the French champions Aix-en-Provence Argonauts in the round of 16, to whom the Cardinals lost 0:51. After the championship, a sportingly changeable decade began and only in 2002 could the play-offs for the British championship be reached again. After relegation from the top division in 2005, the Cardinals now play in the second division.
