life and work

Irena Haiduk rejects biographies.

The Army of Beautiful Women is a performance in which female employees of the documenta stroll through the streets of Kassel in dress, shoes and with books balancing on their heads. For her fashion label “Yugoexport” Haiduk designed a uniform for all Documenta 14 employees. She uses the Borosana shoe, which was developed by the Borovo company between 1960 and 1969 . The wearing of these toe-free canvas shoes for women who worked in the public service was mandatory in the former Yugoslavia. According to calculations, the soles were suitable for nine hours of work while standing without running the risk of back pain.

Documenta visitors were able to buy Borosana shoes and the matching dress at Documenta 14. With the purchase of the shoes, they undertook to sign a contract stating their willingness to wear the shoes only during working hours. In this way you are forced to think carefully about when to work - and when not.
