Irena Kurpisz-Stefanowa

Irena Kurpisz-Stefanowa (born August 17, 1901 in Rogażewo , † 1994 in Warsaw ) was a Polish pianist and music teacher.

Kurpisz-Stefanowa completed piano studies at the State Conservatory in Poznan by 1927 . She then taught at the Bydgoszcz City Conservatory, where he led a piano class. From 1935 she taught at the Conservatory of the Pomeranian Music Society in Toruń, and from 1936 she also appeared as a piano accompanist on the city's radio station.

During the time of the German occupation , Kurpisz-Stefanowa lived in Warsaw and gave private piano lessons there. After 1945 she returned to Toruń. There she tried to reactivate the Pomeranian Music Society and became director of its music institute (later the State Music Academy). In 1951, she was awarded the Silver Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland for her activities to increase the educational and artistic level of the university . In 1952 she moved to Poznan, where she worked as a piano professor at the State Music Academy until her retirement . Her students include Jerzy Godziszewski and Bernadetta Matuszczak .
