Bernadetta Matuszczak

Bernadetta Matuszczak (born March 10, 1931 in Toruń ) is a Polish composer.

After attending the music school in her hometown, Matuszczak studied music theory with Zygmunt Sitowski , piano with Irena Kurpisz-Stefanowa and composition with Tadeusz Szeligowski at the Poznan State Music Academy . From 1960 she continued her composition studies at the State Music Academy in Warsaw with Szeligowski and after his death with Kazimierz Sikorski . She received her diploma as a composer in 1964. With a grant from the French government, she studied with Nadia Boulanger in Paris in 1968 .

In 1965 she won the competition of young Polish composers of the Polish Composers' Association, the following year the Grzegorz Fitelberg Composition Competition and in 1967 the Jeunesses Musicales competition . Her work Septem Tubae was performed at the 43rd World Music Festival in Hamburg in 1969, her chamber opera Juliet i Romeo at the 1972 International May Festival in Wiesbaden.
