Kazimierz Sikorski (born June 28, 1895 in Zurich ; † July 23, 1986 in Warsaw ) was a Polish composer .

Life

Sikorski studied in Warsaw, the then Polish Lwów (German Lemberg, Ukrainian Lwiw) and Paris . In 1926 he was a teacher of composition at the Conservatory of Poznań . From 1927 to 1945 he taught at the Warsaw Conservatory, whose rector he was 1940-44 (at that time under the name: State Music School in Warsaw). Until 1951 he was the rector of the Music Academy in Łódź . From 1951 to 1966 he worked at the Warsaw Music Academy , where he taught music theory and composition . From 1954 to 1959 he was also President of the Polish Composers' Union. He is the father of the composer Tomasz Sikorski .

Works

Sikorski composed six symphonies , a symphonic allegro, two overtures (1945, 1954), various instrumental concerts, of which the clarinet concerto (1947) is the most important, also a string sextet (1930) and three string quartets as well as choral works and film scores , including for the film “ Warszawska premiera ”, for which he received a state award.

His early works are still committed to the post-Wagnerian style, those written after the Second World War embody a new and individual aesthetic. They are strictly built, clearly structured and show a certain preference for polyphonic structures.
