She first studied at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and the Faculty of Fine Arts, Skopje, before taking up her postgraduate studies at the Art Academy for Media in Cologne, which she completed in 2007.

Artistic creation

People are always at the center of their work. So she deals with the turmoil of cultures and religions, questions of identity and alienation. Topics that she experienced up close in her home country and that continue to accompany her abroad. Since 2001 she has participated in numerous exhibitions, festivals and artists in residence programs, in addition to her home country Macedonia a. a. in Germany, Austria, USA, Serbia, Bulgaria, England and in early 2007 with the solo exhibition “Urban Landscape” in the Cité Internationale des Arts Paris . Irena Paskali works with many media: with photography, print, video and various materials, which she brings together in installations.

Irena Paskali's project “At this Bottom”, for example, is a short documentary story about the coexistence of people belonging to the two largest religions - Christians and Muslims . It is a story about the absurdity of mutual intolerance in everyday encounters between people condemned to lead a life together in a limited geographical area. The eternal conflict of cultural differences is also addressed, but above all the emphasis is placed on the commonalities of the great religions, which for incorrigible optimists could mean moments of mutual rapprochement. These similarities are shown through documentary recordings of religious celebrations: similarities in the rituals, in the celebration of important religious festivals, in the longing for faith, but also similarities in mutual destruction and suffering. “At this Bottom” shows the change that social coexistence is subject to and its influence on the values of these societies. Random participants are shown to demonstrate the largely prevailing dark atmosphere, and Paskali takes on the role of the ubiquitous narrator. But the author is neither a critic or a judge; Through her presence, she (un) intentionally elaborates and shows the psychological and sociological problems of "everyday" people.
