Career

After graduating from high school, Irene Schramm-Biermann studied mathematics in Bielefeld and Hamburg. She completed her artistic training at the University of Education in Bielefeld (including with Pramann) with the state examination. In addition to her teaching activities, she always devoted herself to painting. After completing her teaching career, she founded the producer gallery 13.14 in Detmold in 2013 and turned entirely to painting. Her main focus is on concrete art and landscapes. In the last ten years she has dealt almost exclusively with Concrete Art, which - influenced by her studies - always has a special relationship to mathematics.

The artistic work is formed in particular by the focus on concrete art with reference to mathematics and landscapes:

Art and math

The connection between fine arts and mathematics is basically obvious, because mathematics has its own elegant beauty. Still, fine arts based on mathematical facts are not often found. The works of Irene Schramm-Biermann can be assigned to Concrete Art. Ideas arise through dealing with a mathematical issue, through spontaneous impressions or through research in the rich spectrum of mathematical conditions suitable for visualization. After initially playful planning with various designs, the final artistic implementation follows. This allows for creative freedom and chance in the course of the work process, which not only, but especially, affects the choice of color. Despite the rationality of the content, the works do not appear to be just intellectual or cool, but rather radiate a certain sensuality through the use of color, color transitions and sometimes inhomogeneous application of paint over the surface. Preferred techniques are pigments and acrylic on canvas.

Landscapes

The genre of landscape painting is deliberately defined very broadly, which results in an interesting spectrum: Even some landscape views that initially appear very real are "interior images", because they show summaries of impressions and moods from nature, with landscape elements such as sky, forest, fields, water be merged into non-existent areas. Physical definitions are sometimes abandoned and real fragments are combined to form unreal landscapes. The geometrical lines of these works already indicate their turn to Concrete Art.
