Irmgard Kriseleit

Irmgard Kriseleit is a German classical archaeologist .

Irmgard Kriseleit studied at the Humboldt University in Berlin . During her studies, she experienced the return of some of the artefacts from the Berlin Collection of Antiquities, which were brought back to the Soviet Union in 1945 as looted art . During her studies she was active as a guide in the museum. After completing her studies, she began regular work at the Pergamon Museum . After Kriseleit initially worked in the East Asian Collection , she switched to the Antikensammlung , where she was initially a research assistant and finally a research assistant from 1963. From 1977 to 1982 she was the deputy director of the collection. She retired at the end of 2001.

Kriseleit was initially responsible for the terracottas in the antiquities collection , later she devoted herself particularly to the mosaics. Here she was also responsible for the restoration of the mosaics from Belkis and Gerasa . In 1985 she was able to present this in her own exhibition. As early as 1981/82 she had an influence on the redesign of the collection and ensured that an entire room was set up for terracottas on the upper floor of the museum. In 1998 she was involved in the reorganization of the Berlin antique collections, which were reunited after German reunification, in the Altes Museum . She was also co-organizer of several important exhibitions such as “ The World of the Etruscans ” and “ Citizens' Worlds ”.
