Irvine Bay is a bay on the west coast of Scotland . It extends over the Council Areas of North Ayrshire and South Ayrshire . Historically, it was part of the traditional county of Ayrshire .
geography
The eight-mile long bay stretches along the lower Firth of Clyde between the small towns of Saltcoats in North Ayrshire and Troon in South Ayrshire. About a kilometer inland is the city of Irvine in the middle . The Irvine is the only notable tributary there. A continuous sandy beach with dunes at the end runs along the relatively shallow bay with a depth of about three kilometers. Ardrossan Castle at Ardrossan overlooks the bay.
