Iryna Dmytrivna Farion ( Ukrainian Ірина Дмитрівна Фаріон , born April 29, 1964 in Lviv , Lviv Oblast , Ukrainian SSR ), is a Ukrainian philologist and politician .

biography

According to documents found in the archives of the Lviv Oblast Regional Council in November 2013, Farion was a member of the Komsomol from September 1978 and a member of the CPSU from March 1987 . Farion himself has denied membership in this party several times. In 1987 she graduated from the Ivan Franko National University in Lviv . Until 1996 she worked as a laboratory assistant at the Institute for General Linguistics in Lviv. Since 1996 she has been assistant professor at the National Polytechnic University of Lviv for Ukrainian language .

Since 2005 she has been a member of the All-Ukrainian Association "Svoboda" . From 2006 to 2012 she was a member of the Lviv Oblast Regional Council. In the parliamentary elections in Ukraine in 2012 , she was elected as a member of the Verkhovna Rada , where she was appointed head of the parliamentary sub-committee for higher education.

Views

Farion is committed to preserving the Ukrainian language as the only official language in the country. On February 15, 2010, she wrote an open letter accusing the newly elected President Viktor Yanukovych of conducting attacks on the Ukrainian language, which she believes is a crucial characteristic of the nation, and warned him of his “ bilingual , Moscow- serving” policies . In the same month, she made headlines across the country when she gave a lecture to children and their parents at a kindergarten in Lviv on Mother Tongue Day. She criticized the use of Russian variants of pet names for children and recommended that children who call themselves a Russian name move to Russia ( "Should Mascha go where the Maschas live" ). This incident sparked outrage among parents, psychologists and politicians. Some parents reported Farion in court for this. In June 2010 Farion proposed a law that would allow all Ukrainian residents who refuse to learn the Ukrainian language to be prosecuted. She also called Russian the "language of the occupiers" and called the 14% of the Ukrainian population who list Russian as their mother tongue as "degenerates" in need of "rescuing".

With regard to homosexuality, she takes the view that those affected should undergo therapy. She thinks homosexuality is a disease that needs to be cured.

After the murder of Oles Busyna in 2015, she called him "Degenerate" and "Devil Abortion". On December 20, 2016, she publicly thanked the killer of Andrei Karlow on her Facebook page .
