The submarine "Peral"

In 1888, despite initial resistance from the Navy Ministry, he built the submarine Peral , for which the regent Maria Christina had used. The boat was 21 m long, had two 30 HP electric motors (with insufficient batteries, however) and a torpedo tube and displaced 77, submerged 85 tons over water. It reached a speed of 7 knots . 1889 made Peral first three successful tests with the Whitehead - Torpedo . This is a sea mine powered by a propeller . Yet his plans were not supported; intrigues were instigated against the inventor. With the exception of a satirical magazine, he did not find any newspapers that were ready to report on the successful trial. The boat is now in the Cartagena Naval Museum .

Four Spanish Navy submarines under construction make up the Isaac Peral class .
