Isaak Elchanan Spector
Isaak Elchanan Spektor (* 1817 in Ross [Рось; Polish Roś] near Grodno , Russia ; † March 6, 1896 in Kovno ) was a Russian rabbi and Talmudist . He founded a yeshiva in Kovno and supported the Chovevei Zion movement in Russia.
After the Chovevei Zion was publicly recognized, he decreed that the settlement of Palestine was a religious duty. Spektor was known and honored for his human interpretation of religious rules.
