Isaak Komnenos (nephew of Andronikos' I)
Isaak Komnenos ( Middle Greek Ἰσαάκιος Κομνηνός ; † between 1191 and 1193 in Constantinople ) was a Byzantine usurper against Emperor Isaac II Angelus .
Life
Isaak Komnenos was a son of Johannes Komnenos Tzelepes , the older brother of Emperor Andronikos I , and thus a member of the ruling dynasty of the Komnenes . After Andronikos I was overthrown by Isaac II in 1185, Isaak Komnenus was arrested. Around 1191 he managed to escape from prison. He went to Hagia Sophia , where he tried to gather a crowd of supporters and incite against Isaac II. He was eventually caught and tortured to have the names of his co-conspirators extracted from him. The following day, Isaac died of serious injuries.
A little later another, anonymous Komnene (" Rakendytes ") and the protonobelissimos Konstantin Tatikios failed in their attempts to usurp power in Constantinople.
