Life
Her parents were Simon Rosado and Petra Morales. Her father had a leading company in town.
At the age of 18, Isabel Rosado went to the University of Puerto Rico . She studied for the teaching profession. She taught in rural schools for years. On March 21, 1937, she followed on the radio what would later become known as the Ponce Massacre . The event was believed to be the main reason for joining the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party led by Pedro Albizu Campos , who was imprisoned at the time . The goal was independence from the United States . On May 21, 1948, a bill by the Puerto Rican Senate came into force, stating that the right to independence and national movements must be restricted. On October 30, 1950, Pedro Albizu Campos ordered an uprising against the decisions of the US government. Rosado himself did not take part. She was arrested while working at school and subsequently sentenced to 15 months in prison. After she was detained, she returned to a private school. She was arrested again on March 6, 1954 when the party's headquarters were stormed by police. This time she was sentenced to 11 years in prison.
In 1965, at the end of her second term, her habeas corpus was published. In 1979 she took part in an ecumenical service against the US Navy occupation on the island of Vieques . She was arrested again by the police, but was later released. After that she was still active in the party, but could no longer find a common job.
Later a documentary was named after her Isabel Rosado: Nacionalista , which addressed the issues of surveillance and political repression. He should encourage people to have a public discussion. Rosado died of natural causes in a hospice on January 13, 2015, at the age of 107. Her name was inscribed on a plaque at the Jayuya Uprising Memorial in honor of the party's women .
